Red Dead Revolver

Several missions in Reddish Dead Revolver take place inside, on top of, and alongside trains. The player first rides on a train during the mission "The Traincar", and then proceeds to fight along the peak of the train in the subsequent mission "Railroaded". This railway line, which runs between Widow's Patch and Brimstone, is known as the Pan-Atlantic Railroad. It is featured in Sheriff Bartlett'southward Periodical on pages 296-299. Hank Pullman is the train usher.

In the mission "End of the Line", Red Harlow fights enemies on a railroad train while riding alongside and while on board. General Javier Diego rides a heavily armored train on Diego's Railroad in an endeavour to escape from Ruby Harlow post-obit the assault on Fort Diego.

Red Expressionless Redemption

In Ruby-red Dead Redemption, the railroads allow quick travel over long distances, similar to the subway arrangement in Grand Theft Auto IV. Another similarity in both games is that the trains cannot be conducted or controlled.

Both trains in the game have the same gild of railroad train cars: the locomotive itself, and information technology's tender, a rider car, a baggage automobile, two boxcars. and a pocket-sized caboose. On missions involving trains, there are large apartment cars and even an armored railcar.

Marston tin can board trains while riding on horseback by pressing XBOXXBUTTON.png (Xbox 360) or PSSQUAREBUTTON.png (PS3) when prompted, which triggers him to leap from his horse onto the train; the prompt appears when Marston is alongside a prepare of boarding steps (not open boxcar doors). While riding on the train, Marston can stand upward and walk effectually the interior of the train, and movement most the other cars by climbing on top of them. Marston tin likewise climb into open boxcars while on top of their roof by using the appropriate button printing when prompted.

Apart from the Gambling table chairs, such equally Poker and Blackjack, and - in a mode - the equus caballus's saddle, the train's benches and the seats at a Movie theater are the simply seats in the unabridged game that can be used to sit on. Simply printing XBOXYBUTTON.png (Xbox) or PSTRIANGLEBUTTON.png (PS3) when side by side to a seat to sit downward on it. When activated, the player will receive a series of constantly changing photographic camera views - a bulk being exterior. To stand up and leave cinema view, simply press Y or Triangle again.

Trains play a big office in the Social club challenge "Legendary Sharpshooter", in which players must complete iii objectives while on board a train. Also, level 4 of single player Sharpshooter claiming involves boarding a train, and one achievement requires a railroad train to exist obtained.

The story missions "Civilisation, at Any Price", "Mexican Caesar" and "The Great Mexican Train Robbery" all focus on trains, although in each instance, information technology is a special Mexican Ground forces train and not the commercial Southwestern Railroad "Reddish Railroad train".

There are two train lines, each with a circuit that takes about a day to travel:

  • The red line (Southwestern Railroad Company) covers New Austin and Nuevo Paraíso, going counterclockwise through Armadillo, Benedict Signal, Chuparosa, Las Hermanas, Casa Madrugada and MacFarlane'south Ranch.
    • Prior to the unlocking of Mexico, the red line only runs between McFarlane'due south Ranch, Armadillo and Bridegroom Point in alternating directions.
  • The bluish line (Pacific Wedlock Railroad Company) covers West Elizabeth and Hennigan's Stead, going through Blackwater, Manzanita Post, MacFarlane's Ranch and the Pacific Marriage R.R. Camp.

Trains were absent-minded from Undead Nightmare, only can exist seen in "American Imperialism".

Red Expressionless Redemption 2

Trains reappear in Ruby-red Dead Redemption 2; they can be robbed by the role player, and, different other Ruddy Dead games, they can also be driven. While driving, the histrion can ring the bell, use the whistle, brake, reverse and accelerate. In addition, players can ride a train every bit a form of fast travel by buying tickets at whatsoever train stations. The ticket price will vary depending on the travel altitude to the role player'southward destination.

Trains run through most of the territory, from Big Valley in the west to Annesburg in the east, except in the South-Westward of the map. While the runway line betwixt Bridegroom Signal, Armadillo, and MacFarlane'south Ranch in New Austin exists, no passenger trains run and tickets can't be purchased, merely cargo trains will be found running. In West Elizabeth, the rails lines through Alpine Copse and the Great Plains accept even so to be built in 1907.

At that place are five separate railroad companies: the Central Spousal relationship Railroad, the Lannahechee andMidland Rail Co. and the Southern andEastern Railway (owned past Leviticus Cornwall) operate in Ambarino, Lemoyne, New Hanover, and the Large Valley region of W Elizabeth. The Southwestern Railroad and the Pacific Matrimony Railroad, from the kickoff Ruby-red Dead Redemption game, are also seen in operation in New Austin; however only trains from the latter announced. A newspaper article later states that the Southern and Eastern Railway Company was bought by the Pacific Union Railroad Visitor in 1907, following Cornwall'southward decease in 1899.

A paper also states that there used to be companies named "The New Austin Northern Railroad", "The Armadillo Limited Railroad" and the "Valentine Valley Railway".

Similar in Redemption, the names of the various track companies are references to real globe railways:

  • The Key Union Railroad is possibly a reference to the real-life sometime Central Pacific Railroad.
  • The Southern and Eastern Railway could have gotten its name after the sometime Southern Railway of the U.s.A.; which was establish in 1894.
  • The Lannahechee and Midland Track Co. does not announced to be based on a detail railroad company. It instead takes inspiration from various mining railroads.

Note that the trains do non follow this schedule, either due to a programming error or because it was never implemented. They are really random and well-nigh of the time they go through the stations without stopping.

Differences

Cherry-red Dead Redemption

While for the most office the trains are extremely like, there are a few differences between the two; they are outlined below.

Red Train

  • The Scarlet Train is run by the Southwestern Railroad Company, which is possibly a reference to the existent-life old Southern Pacific Railroad and Western Pacific Railroad; two famous railroads that served much of the southwest with the former even acquiring a route into Mexico in 1898. Coincidentally enough, there are too a couple of existent life Southwestern Railroads, including i in New Mexico; which New Austin is partly based on.
  • The Red Train is bachelor to the thespian from the beginning of the game (the Blue Train appears after West Elizabeth has been unlocked).
  • The Ruby Train travels throughout the western part of the American map, and through Mexico.
  • The Red Train'south route varies by affiliate. Prior to the mission "We Shall Be Together in Paradise" and the unlocking of Mexico, the Carmine Train runs a 'domestic dog bone' excursion through New Austin, using the reversing loops through Gaptooth Ridge and east of MacFarlane's ranch, and so that it runs the trunk line MacFarlane's Ranch-Armadillo-Benedict Betoken in alternate directions. After Mexico is opened, the train skips the Gaptooth Ridge loop and turns southwards, running a counterclockwise circuit through Chuparosa-Las Hermanas-Casa Madrugada and back upwards into New Austin.
  • The Red Railroad train travels slower than the Blue Train.
  • The Blood-red Train has the number 11 on its side.
  • The Reddish Train has interior lighting (Blue Train does non). This is probably because the Blood-red Train enters a tunnel in the Redemption Mountains, whereas the Blueish Railroad train is always in the open up.
  • The Red Train'southward conductor can be either American or Mexican,  depending on where the train is boarded.
  • The Blood-red Train leaves the station with four passengers, excluding Marston and including the conductor.
  • After the mission "Culture, at Any Price", in which the Butter Bridge is destroyed, the Red Train halts at Casa Madrugada and remains stationary until after the mission "Mexican Caesar", at which time the bridge is miraculously rebuilt.

Blue Train

  • The Blue Railroad train does not testify up aslope the reddish railroad train until subsequently the mission "An Appointed Fourth dimension" and the unlocking of West Elizabeth.
  • The Blue Railroad train is run past the Pacific Wedlock Railroad Company, which is likely a reference to the real-life Union Pacific Railroad Company.
  • The Blue Train does a shorter travel than the Red Train. Information technology only travels through West Elizabeth and the eastern part of New Austin.
  • The Blueish Train has a number eight on the side of the cab.
  • The Blue Train leaves the station with iii passengers, excluding Marston and including the usher.

Railroad train Mechanics

  • The trains terminate at junctions momentarily to avoid collision.
    • The carmine train stops at the junction northwest of Butter Bridge which is the most eastward border crossing between Nuevo Paraíso and the States.
    • The blue train stops at the junction due west of Tanner'due south Span and northward of MacFarlane'southward Ranch.
    • When a railroad train stops information technology volition await some time for the other train to make its stop at MacFarlane's Ranch and and so pass the junction. When the stopped railroad train gets gear up to go again, the bell will ring and the train volition continue equally though information technology has just left a station.
  • MacFarlane'southward Ranch is the only station common to both the Red and Blue Lines.
  • Killing anyone on the train, including the engineer, will cause it to irksome downward and come to a halt. After a very long time, the railroad train will begin moving once again with no engineer.
  • Marston tin can't actually control the trains.
  • By shooting the boiler several times when a railroad train nears a station y'all can keep it from stopping, merely this may disturb the law.
  • The two trains occasionally meet at the same identify; still, they but run correct through each other, and if you are on the roof, you will exist knocked off, but volition not die.
  • The lasso cannot be used on a train, just hogtied victims can be placed on a train. If Marston lassos a person and then walks onto the train, it will still gear up off and Marston will still hold the lasso, dragging the person forth with the train.
  • When players stand on top of the railroad train, they volition glide slowly from side to side, and may fall off. This can be negated somewhat by crouching.
    • Marston volition slip no affair where he stands, only one time inside there isn't actually much of a risk of falling off though care must still be taken when moving between the different cars.
    • Marston tin can stand or hunker securely in the railroad train's tender; on top of the wood pile is probably the all-time position for hunting/shooting from the train.
  • The Mexican defence train never shows up outside missions. It is replaced with what looks similar an exact copy of the Blue train.
  • Wildlife can cause the railroad train to halt for a few seconds. The train will whistle, the animal will walk off of the track, and the train will continue on. Horses and NPC'due south, however, volition not stop the train and will exist killed if hit by information technology.
  • Marston is able to stand on the locomotive, whether it exist stationary or moving.
  • The train will only whistle when budgeted or leaving a station, or after it stops for a wild animal to cantankerous the tracks.
  • At stations, the bong rings twice before the train sets off. The first time while the Conductor shouts "All Aboard", and once more right before the train whistles and sets off.
  • If the role player hits the train conductor with his fists he volition fall over and be pushed back just he teleports back to the front of the train.
  • Interestingly, if a horse or a hogtied person is placed on the tracks, they will explode in a shower of blood when hit past a train. Even so, if Marston is hit by a railroad train, he will but be flung off of the rails and die. Also, if he is riding a equus caballus, the horse will die on contact with the train, but volition simply be flung off the rails with its corpse visible, and Marston will alive.
  • The windows in the Crimson train tin can be broken while the Blues' windows cannot be broken.

Miscellaneous Information

Ruby Expressionless Redemption

  • Both the Ruddy and Blue train locomotives are based on the 4-6-0 locomotive (4 airplane pilot wheels with half dozen drive wheels) too chosen a "Ten Wheeler," which was still used by some Western railroads in the early on 1900's; all the same, wood fuel and the associated "diamond" funnel had usually given fashion to coal (and increasingly, oil) by 1911. Rockstar is once again paying tribute to the Hollywood Western with this iconic locomotive type, although it is more appropriate to the typical Western motion picture setting of the 1860'due south-1880's. Sierra Railroad #3, the locomotive which appeared in more westerns than any other locomotive, was perhaps the inspiration for this pick.
  • Visually, the locomotives themselves acquit a strong resemblance to the Primal Pacific'south 4-vi-0's, and other x-wheelers manufactured in the early on 1860s, such equally the Baltimore & Ohio's Thatcher Perkins. The locomotive also strongly resembles a locomotive that was built past the Taunton Locomotive Manufacturing Company in 1868 for the Union Pacific Railroad and it saw service with the Union Pacific until 1923 when it was retired and cut up for flake.
  • Originally, the promotional material for Redemption said players could take function in a Train robbery in an attempt to gain a large sum of greenbacks. This characteristic is not included in game, save for the mission "The Not bad Mexican Train Robbery", simply is fully implemented in Redemption ii.
  • In unmarried-actor, the current location of both trains are shown on the map. Trains practice not appear in multiplayer due to the fact the train would have acquired a severe lag in gameplay, however, there is a stationary one at Pacific Union Railroad Camp.
  • Hogtied NPCs can be placed on railway tracks. When the railroad train runs over the NPC, the body explodes in a shower of blood and limbs. If a hogtied female NPC is placed on the runway and killed by a train, this unlocks the Achievement/Trophy Dastardly. Marston tin can do this without losing honor by using a "Dazzler and the Wagon" woman equally a victim, since the game considers her an enemy.
  • The quaternary level of the sharpshooter claiming requires that the actor shoot five flying birds while standing on a moving train; this is virtually easily washed from the tender as there is a clear field of fire overhead but no risk of Marston slipping off.
  • Calling a faster horse will get in follow the player alongside the railroad train. If it gains speed, it tin cross over the tracks, but most of the time it will get run over.
  • If the railroad train hits a dead animate being, the beast volition fly off the track, but volition still be skinnable.
  • The route taken from Blackwater at the offset of the game, while only used in the initial cutscene, is actually possible. The Cerise Train changes paths earlier in the game, until information technology reaches it's final layout at the end, and it'due south possible a similar change happened correct earlier the player takes control of Marston. A poster institute at railroad train stations advertises a Blackwater-Armadillo road.
  • Very rarely, a late-coming passenger may be seen trying to board a railroad train when it starts moving. The rider will fall off at the station first, and so he might first chasing the railroad train in the centre of the tracks, needless to say, fruitlessly.
  • Just as the train heads north after leaving Blackwater station, in that location is a telephone pole on the tracks. The railroad train goes right through it, however, and if the histrion is on top of the train when the phone pole goes through, they volition exist knocked off.
  • The stationary train at the Pacific Spousal relationship Railroad Campsite has the same number equally the Cherry-red Train.

Red Expressionless Redemption 2

  • There is a lot of rolling-stock variegating in types, sizes, paint schemes, and railroads in RDR2. Types of rolling-stock include stock cars (for hauling cattle), hoppers (for coal), gondolas (possibly also for coal), boxcars (for goods and produce), Reefers (A.G.A. Refrigerator cars; used for refrigerating), flatcars (for large loads and/or lumber and rail), cabooses, baggage cars, passenger cars, armored passenger cars, armored boxcars, and tenders.
  • Two types of locomotives are in the game: the get-go is a 4-half-dozen-0 10-Wheeler based off of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad'southward "Thatcher Perkins", and the other is a 4-4-0 American based off of New York Fundamental & Hudson River Railroad #999, a locomotive reported to have allegedly gone over 100 mph in 1893. The 4-6-0 design is used primarily by the Cardinal Union Railroad and the Lannahechee and Midland Rails Co., though the Southern and Eastern Railway also operate one. The iv-4-0 is used by the Southern and Eastern and the Pacific Marriage Railroad.
  • In Saint Denis, there is another form of runway travel dissever from the other railroads of the game (except the Pacific Union R.R.). It comprises of only streetcars and trolleys and is only operated on by 2 companies. 1 company is the Cornwall City Track and the other is the Pacific Union Railroad. The streetcars or trolleys looked to be based off of streetcars manufactured past the J. Chiliad. Brill Visitor.
  • During the mission "Who the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall?", the locomotive used is unique; information technology uses the four-6-0 model in a Southern and Eastern Railway livery (all other Southern and Eastern trains are hauled by a iv-4-0) and has a unique doghouse tender (perhaps to provide a hiding spot for the engineer to ambush Arthur).
  • A ghost railroad train appears near Erstwhile Greenbank Mill at 3am. The locomotive appears to be another iv-six-0 like to the other iv-6-0's. It only appears once, all the same.
  • If the histrion places a railroad vehicle on the train tracks this will make the engineer stop the railroad train and yell at the role player.
  • Sometimes in Annesburg you tin find one or 2 coal trains waiting to load. The trains are non capable of being driven or hijacked. One of the trains volition begin to pull forrad under the coal tower, and begin loading the coal hoppers with coal. The train will eventually have loaded all of the hoppers, in which example, the railroad train will so steam away from Annesburg. Afterwards the train has left y'all are capable of driving the locomotive.
  • On many occasions, a iv-4-0 hauling freight can be seen waiting on the tracks just before the station in Saint Denis. Unlike the locomotives in Annesburg, the train never departs and cannot exist driven.
  • One other course of power on the railroads of the game are handcars. They can be operated by repeatedly pressing the "A" push. Though they are not fast, they are practical and sometimes convenient. They can also exist driven from both directions. One such location they can be plant at is the siding near the Appleseed Timber Company.

Ruddy Dead Online

  • Mostly cargo variants are encountered in gratis fashion with rare passenger trains being present.

Historical Inaccuracies

  • Trains run 24/7, without ever stopping, and while this is unrealistic, it is likely for player convenience.
  • A steam locomotive requires an engineer and a fireman. The engineer regulates the speed, the valves, and keeps a look out, while the firefighter puts the fuel source (in the game's case, wood or coal) into the firebox. However, in both games, almost all trains lack a fire fighter, and the commuter does all of the work, due to the relative minor space.
  • In the first game, the locomotive is fueled by forest, simply by the time RDR takes place, coal would have been the main fuel source for most trains.
  • In real life, tenders (the car behind the locomotive) have a majority of their space defended to a water tank, which forms the body of the machine; a large water infinite in the rear, with two wide "legs" running downward the side. The fuel bunker, often narrow, is inset into this "horseshoe" tank, with additional fuel stacked on peak of the water tank. In the game, the tender is mostly a fuel bunker, and has no real water infinite (no water, no steam).
  • The bogies, or "trucks", of both the locomotive and rolling stock are Bettendorf style and used exclusively on freight cars. Additionally, most steam locomotives take inside-bearing lead (forepart) tucks, meaning from the outside, only the wheels would exist visible. In addition, the bogies incorporate Timken roller bearings which were not in use until the 1930s. Historically accurate trains from 1911 would have plain/friction periodical bearings. More than likely, in at least the instance of the locomotive, the choice to reuse the mutual freight truck as the airplane pilot truck was a time-saving measure.
  • The large box-shaped kerosene headlamps were entirely obsolete past 1911 and in real life would take been replaced by smaller electric headlights.
  • Although train stations have h2o towers, they are never used; in real life steam locomotives took on necessary water at every finish.
  • The game locomotives continually belch clouds of black smoke; steam engines in reality but do and so when nether heavy load, such as climbing grades or accelerating.
  • The cars on the trains are not properly in guild. In real life the order would likely be boxcars, baggage automobile, passenger cars, caboose. Rider cars were placed at the rear to minimize their exposure to smoke.
  • The railway tracks west of the Hennigan's Stead tunnel and north past Annisburg are too steep for a existent life railroad.
  • In the mission "The Great Mexican Train Robbery", after Marston disconnects the rear cars they roll away down the course; in a train equipped with Westinghouse air brakes, as nearly all trains were by 1911 and which tin can be heard when a game train starts and stops, the cars' brakes would have been automatically locked.
  • The train doesn't stop if it hits a person, which in real life would possibly filibuster a train for up to a week.
  • The unique doghouse tender seen in the RDR2 mission "Who the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall?", is non entirely accurate to the fourth dimension period of the second game. While railroads around this time started to comprise doghouses onto their tenders; the unique tender seen in the mission appears to exist an all-steel doghouse tender. In actuality, all-steel doghouse tenders were not manufactured until 1937. Prior to 1937, all doghouses on tenders were made from woods.

Game Engine Oddities

  • Sometimes, just aiming a weapon in the passenger machine will make the conductor pull out his fists and come at the histrion, though the railroad train doesn't finish unless the player attacks an NPC onboard.
  • Boarding a train while wanted is a perfect fashion to escape as long every bit the train doesn't stop permanently. The lawmen cant keep up with the Iron Horse and all you accept to do is wait.
  • "All Aboard" can be heard from the conductor before the railroad train sets off; still, the conductor is usually sitting downwards, and his oral fissure does not move.
  • When the bong on a train rings, the bell never actually moves.
  • If Marston is standing on the roof of the train as it passes through a stop, he will sometimes be flung from the roof and die.
  • If Marston accidentally takes his fists out in the passenger part of the train, the person at the back volition get his fists out and crusade the train to stop.
  • If the player saves, and passes time by six hours, the trains will still exist in the same place they were prior to the save, as they are unable to act independently from the player.
  • Sometimes, when a hogtied person is hit past the train, the train will glitch and shake, while remaining in identify. The person will remain unharmed, but the only way to get the train going over again is to kill the hogtied character.
  • If a person on the train is killed while the train is on raised tracks, the train will finish and the rest of the passengers (if they abscond) will walk correct off the steps and autumn to their deaths.
  • On the way to MacFarlane'due south Ranch, from West Elizabeth, the train might suddenly stop for no reason and and then go on as normal to the station.
  • PS3Logo.png - The logs the engineer throws into the boiler stick to his easily and will not actually fall into the firebox. They vanish when he reaches for another i.
  • PS3Logo.png - On the "Map" section of the intermission menu, setting the transport to "Off" will remove the red train icon merely not the blue 1.

Glitches/Bugs in Ruby Dead Redemption

  • Shooting the Engineer in both legs will make him spawn in front of the train and explode in a mass of claret and guts merely the train continues as if zip happened.
  • Sometimes at that place might be an fauna inside the train.
  • Sometimes if ane is to kill the conductor, the train will continue moving every bit if he was not dead.
  • Occasionally, the red/blue railroad train will cease and then not move again until you reload a saved game.
  • Rarely the cherry-red train won't make a stop for the bluish to laissez passer, instead of a collision of sorts, they will laissez passer through each other with no standoff.
  • If the trains are not stopping in the stations, try equipping your bandanna, and and then unequipping it.
  • Between the missions "Civilization, at Whatever Toll" and "Mexican Caesar", if the histrion boards the train at Casa Madrugada (as it faces towards (the now destroyed) Butter Span) it will stay at the station.
  • Immediately after the mission "Mexican Caesar", if players return to Butter Bridge and wait for a train to pass it will ghost over the span equally if it were even so there. Also, if the actor gets on the train in Chuparosa (as it is unconfirmed anywhere else) and goes to the roof of the train and so goes to the very dorsum of the train, the railroad train will run beyond Butter Span as if the bridge were at that place, with the player on it.
  • If Marston stands on the train, and another railroad train passes through the train, Marston will die every bit if he was run over. If he is sitting downwardly, he will be fine.
  • XboxLogo.png - Sometimes information technology goes in a circle and won't become to other places (like going effectually MacFarlane'due south Ranch and non going anywhere else).
  • XboxLogo.png - Occasionally a passenger sitting will bladder off the train if the railroad train stops.
  • XboxLogo.png - The loop through the Hennigan's Stead road the ruby-red train originally takes when the role player goes downwards the ridge it is on they may notice that there is a gap nether the tracks and when the player looks at this the railroad tracks become invisible.
  • PS3Logo.png - Afterwards "Mexican Caesar", the cargo from the Gatling Gun train may all the same be floating in place above the tracks where the train stopped at the army base camp. This can either cause the train to cease or will pass directly through the railroad train. However, if the player is continuing in the train (in the carriages or engine, not on the roof - sitting unconfirmed) the cargo will striking the player causing him to exist knocked over and can, potentially, kill the player.
  • PS3Logo.png - The blue train and the red railroad train will e'er see on the same track at some bespeak, when this happens the trains just go directly through each other without harming any NPC's on board, merely Marston will be affected past this by either killing him or making him glitch out.
  • PS3Logo.png - Placing a adult female directly in front end of the railroad train while stopped in Blackwater may cause the railroad train to become unable to move.
  • PS3Logo.png - When wanted, standing or crouching in front of the door of a passenger wagon volition make the police unable to meet you lot. This will drop your wanted level.
